The word Bangkok excites the traveler in you. In a flash we start imagining the opulent architecture of the sky touching buildings, the exotic golden temples, the the early morning almsgiving ceremonies, the frenetic markets, glossy techno clubs, and the list goes on and on…. • The Grand Palace: The Grand Palace is a must see for the magnificent architectural style of the buildings in its compound. It has been the major architectural symbol of the Thai Royal family since the naissance of Bangkok. The Siwalaj Gardens is the place where Royal receptions and recreations took place, whereas the Maha Monthein Prasat houses is where the ceremonies of the court are conducted before the throne covered by a beautiful canopy of nine tiers of white cloth. There is a very strict dress code followed here and one must keep this in mind while visiting the Grand Palace.
• The National Museum: The National Museum is located on the opposite side of Sanam Luang to The Grand Palace. It has a large collection religious and secular art, pre-historic items,etc. it consists of items from Srivijaya, Dvaravati, Khmer Kingdoms and the Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods of Thai history including Neolithic tools, painted pots and bronze objects unearthed in the northeast. Thai Buddhist art exhibits quality images in stone, bronze and terracotta with exemplified scripture manuscript cabinet. It also has a large collection of Thai and Chinese ceramics, theatrical costumes, palanquins, weapons and assorted items used in royal households. It divulges the history of Thailand and the lifestyle of the people during different periods.
• Wat Pho: Actually named Wat Phrachetuphon Vimon Mangkararam Ratchaworamahawihan, it is a famous centre for traditional massage training, medical science and a centre for meditation which has an international recognition. There is a cloister where you can have a traditional Thai massage for a very small expense. The main attraction for the tourists is the temple which was earlier the school of monks for their lessons of spirituality and meditation. Wat Pho is most famed for the golden reclining Buddha that measures 46 metres and has feet inlaid with mother-of pearl. It is an awesome relaxing retreat for the troubled souls from the busy taxing world.
• Jim Thompson’s Museum: This Museum is actually house of the great person who revived the Thai silk industry after the Second World War. It exquisite collection of Asian artifacts and antiques. The house is made of 6 original traditional teak structures brought from different parts of the country. The garden is highly impressive as it has several tropical jungles emulating nature’s frenzied beauty right in the center of the city.
• Lumphini Park: This place is not less then paradise. It has so much to do in it. It is the green zone of the city and an ideal picnic spot for tourists. It also has two lakes having paddle and rowing boats for rent. For people looking for some mental exercise it also has many tables with games like checkers and Chinese chess. What more… it also has a public library at the centre. There are vendors selling cool drinks and snacks all throughout the park. In winter there are concerts featuring a whole range of musical entertainment from The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra to rock bands, traditional ensembles and Thai country music called Luk Tung on Sundays.
• Shopping Street- Bangkok fashion city: Spreading from Siam Square to Chidlom it is the major shopping centre of Bangkok. From fashion items for young girls to techno items and 5 star hotels this area has it all. It is very popular among tourists. The main points are Pathumwan junction, area around the Ratchadamri and Ratchaprasong intersection. In the later part many world leading fashion designers have their boutiques. The Central World Plaza is the largest complex in this area and the site for Bangkok’s New Year Countdown celebrations.

Phuket

Thailand’s largest island also called as the Pearl of the Andaman, Phuket is a beautiful island with natural assets, exotic beaches, limestone cliffs, tropical inland forests and best place for seafood lovers. It is located approximately 862 kilometers south to Bangkok and is most popular and most visited island of the South. This is the place where we can find the best diving sites as it’s three sites are surrounded by Andaman Sea. The best season to visit this destination is from November to February.

• Phuket Fantasea: Phuket Fantasea provides you with great nighttime cultural theme amusement. It has won the Best Attraction Thailand Tourism award for the years 2000 to 2003. It is spread over 140 acres located on the Kamala beach. The attractions are Culture-Illusion Stage Show, Fantasy of the Kingdom, a impressive buffet restaurant Golden Kinnaree Restaurant, shopping village Festive Village, Cultural Parade & Street Shows, Traditional Games and Carnivals, Handicraft Demonstrations & Live Performances (performed in Palace of the Elephants). There is a great fusion of Thai culture and modern Las Vegas style.
• Phuket City: Tourists who want to experience the town atmosphere of the late 19th century the Phuket city is the best place. It can be very well explored by traditional means of transport like tuk-tuk or even on foot. The fantastic Sino-Portuguese architecture is evident in the city shops and the old building gives a touch of historic ambience. Other places worth watching here are The Phuket Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, the Phuket Orchid and Thai Village which has cultural performances with folk dances, Thai boxing and elephant shows.
• Hat Kata (Kata Beach): The Hat Kata comprises of two beaches, the Kata Noi (small Kata) and Kata Yai(Big Kata) beaches. They are located at 17 kilometers from Phuket City and are very well-known for snorkeling to see the coral, tropical fishes and sea-ecosystem. Tourists enjoy the islands rich with coral reefs the most. There are various beach activities available on both the beaches and for accommodation hotels Club Med and Boathouse are popular. It is also worth visiting the Ko Pu island which is a small isolated island located off Laem Sai.
• Phuket Aquarium: Phuket Aquarium is a small place but worth visiting for perceiving hundreds of exotic and colorful marine species found in sea around Phuket. It is located at Cape Phanwa, southeastern most end of the island. This destination proves very appealing for people interested in diving as it offers good introductory lessons about the marine life found in the waters around Phuket. The current highlight of this aquarium is the 10 meter long underwater glass tunnel which is very thrilling.
• Wat Chalong: Wat Chalong or Wat Chai Tararam is located about 8 kilometers from the city. It was built in 1837 and is the most renowned temple of Phuket. It is the house of the famous monk Luang Po Cham who helped the locals fight the Ang Yi rebellion during the reign of King Rama V in 1876. the main attraction of this temple is the 61.4 meter high chedi having the Phra Borom Sareerikatat relic, a piece of the Lord Buddha’s bones brought right from Sri Lanka. It is a blend of southern, central and northeastern architectural fashion and is the first in this region to house the holy Buddha’s relic. This makes the temple a extremely inspiring place for a visit.
• Patong Beach: Also known as Hat Patong it is the most developed and, busiest resort area with great concentration of bars, restaurants and shops. It is the most visited and most happening beach of Phuket, located at about 15 kilometers from the city. It is a 3km long vibrant beach with white sand and clear water. It is the best place for having fun and entertainment. It provides superb leisure activities and energetic night time amusement.
